5 Things not to do when Carp Fishing

Set up on the first swim you get to…

I see so many people doing this and it is normally the closes swim to the car park and can lead to you missing out on so many chances, obviously I’m not saying never do this but do it for the right reasons. Take your time to find the fish and set up where you can get to them and if this is the first swim you get to then it’s a bonus. I will often walk round a lake and spend an hour watching and waiting for those vital signs.

Ignore the signs…

You will often see fish showing either bubbling or breaking the surface or cruising just underneath. Don’t ignore this these are the signs you need to act on whether you need to move swim, put a zig on or just recast to a different location, make sure you act.

Constantly change your method…

If you know your in the right spot and you know your rigs work and you have a quality bait on, don’t change it every 5 mins the bites will come. There is a time for changing what your doing but don’t just do it for the sake of it. At the same time if you tick the above boxes and nothing is happening there is something wrong.

Pack up your rods first…

This is a pet hate of mine and I see so many friends and other anglers doing it and I honestly believe there are chances missed every time this is done. I leave my rods till last packing everything else up even my alarms and bank sticks and where possible make a few trips to the car. There has been many a time I have landed a fish that would have otherwise be missed in those final minutes.

Live without your comforts…

If you are in the right frame of mind you’ll fish better so make sure you have everything you need to make the time between fish as comfortable as possible, take a tablet, radio or dvd player to help pass the time especially in the winter months when the nights are long.
