LAVENDER HALL FISHERY
Station – Specimen Carp Lake
Our Specimen lake ‘Station’ is one of the most popular day-ticket waters in the midlands, a real haven with some stunning fish in. The whole Lavender Hall Fishery site used to be a landfill 25 years ago, as such Station boasts a number of features. Station is clay lined but the silt has built up over the years in the open water, giving you a very good feature to fish to but make sure your rig’s will present your bait correctly as the silt can be deep in places.
Around the three islands you will find the gravel and clay areas that are obviously fished a lot and do produce many fish as most island spot’s do. The depth does vary across the lake with the road side genuinely being a bit shallower around the 4ft mark and the far side of the lake around the 6ft mark.
The swims are very well spaced, but with just 11 of them it can feel busy quickly if a few anglers arrive at once. We do only allow 8 anglers on the lake to give every one a bit more room.
It was once an all out run’s water, but this is not the case any more as over the years we have netted the lake to remove the smaller carp and silver fish etc. The fish stocks by all means are not low with around 100 carp in a 2 acre lake but these fish are very pressured and have seen it all. We estimate 30/35 of the fish to be twenty plus with the average size of fish around the 16lb-18lb size. The current lake record is the big common at 29lb 2oz and was caught at this weight two years ago. It’s most recent capture came on the 22/04/17 caught by Darren Foster at 28lb 0oz. So we think this fish is about max’d out if we are honest but we think there are four other fish coming through the ranks that will go bigger then this fish and break the 30lb barrier. One of them being a 27lb 8oz Common that Fishery Manager Tom caught on 16/05/17. So by the start of 2018 we are hoping for a few thirties to be swimming in the depths of Station… will you be the first to catch one?
Looking to fish the lake?
Station is a very busy day ticket water. For those wishing to fish the day only always check availability before coming down.
Anglers wishing to night fish the lake must book in advance as places are limited to prevent over fishing. You do not book an individual peg on the lake, just a space on the lake. It is first come first served regarding what peg you fish.
